The nascent Zelnesky presidency has much to prove. As yet to detail exactly what he wants to achieve as President of Ukraine, much of the content of public declarations are clearly designed to avoid making specific promises while pleasing his support base. The additional imperative to achieve a strong showing in the Rada elections means it is uncertain to what extent he truly hopes to implement these stated aims, particularly in relation to the abolition of the political and ruling elite. In the short time that he has been in office, there are already signs of Zelensky contradicting his own goals. Whilst he has begun the process of replacing the old political ruling elite with a new one, there are indications from early appointments that he is parachuting close friends into positions of power, some of whom have a history in Ukrainian politics.
