Protests in Baghdad on 1 October spread the majority Shia south of Iraq.
The Iraqi authorities responded by deploying lethal force, imposing city wide curfews, and shutting down internet access across the country.
Estimates suggest that the death toll amongst protestors is over 100, with thousands injured.
Reports suggest that outside actors continue to exert control over the country, with suggestions that militias with loyalties to Iran may be directly responsible for violence.
